what is it ?
one week of art and music , and gardening
lovely people , lots of fun , and a chance to share and grow .
Since the 3.11 earthquake and tsunami , we have been helping the Cosmos family build a beautiful children's park and playground in Cafe Cosmos , Kamaishi . It is becoming very beautiful and interesting ! http://cafecosmoskamaishi.blogspot.jp/
Starting this Autumn we would like to begin to program this new space with the opportunities for creative collaboration .
We will invite 15 artists and musicians to camp in the garden .
We will work in the gardens , make good food , create art and play music everyday .
We will invite any local people ( all ages welcome ) to join in and learn with us .
weekdays will be offered private or group lessons in morning and afternoon . ( phone and reserve ... choose from morning or afternoon session )
weekends will be various open day creative workshops .
night times will be live music and open cafe .

music frollic themes ...fun guitar lessons , how to sing your head off , the mighty big drum set , a keyboard circle ,art thing themes ...make a pre-fab gallery , mask making matsuri magic , lots of happy signs , drawing in the garden , making monies , sitting in the forestmmmm good food themes ...autumn planting , using the garden well ( autumn vege harvesting , cooking , preserving ) , seed saving , wild mushrooms , bread baking , brewinglets make it work properly permaculture/infrastructure themes ...composting toilets , greywater plantings , creative drumcan bathing
We will learn to bake good bread in the ishigama too !
As the event will continue over years , we can see that deep relationships grow .
The shizen nouhou gardens will grow and nourish our bodies , while the sharing art and music will nourish our hearts .
who am I ?
I am David Duval-Smith ,
Originally born in New Zealand 1970 , I have lived in Japan for 20 years working as an artist and graphic designer .
During my first 15 years I was in tokyo , I co-founded NAMAIKI co.ltd ( www.namaiki.com ) with the very funny english artist Michael Frank .
Together we made designs for clients such as Nike , Utada Hikaru , L'Arc~en~Ciel , . we made art for HOYA crystal , the Hara Museum of Art , the national museum of Yogyakarta indonesia etc .
in 2002 we co-created SUPERDELUXE . an event space in tokyo dedicated to art and music , to allow interesting people gather and collaborate . It is now a very well known art space in the world , hosting and curating different events nightly . ( www.super-deluxe.com )
In 2008 I had a realization about the amount of rubbish I was making in my typical tokyo lifestyle .
Since then , I have been working ( as much as possible ) only with natural systems . water , soil , and plants . natural farming and natural building . It has been an enlightening transformation .
The delicious things are produced , and there is no waste in the system .
So we have been working with friends creating communities and gardens in Odawara , Kamakura , Hayama , Chiba and Iwate .
